About Autism

Autism is a neural developmental disorder that normally appears in the first three years of a child’s life. It affects communication and social skills, sensory mechanisms, motor skills and other behavioral functions. Issues associated with this disorder can be poor muscle tone, poor motor planning, toe walking, flapping hands, spinning and many others. Unusal eating habits may include: a very selective diet, refusal of food and dislikes to many food textures.  Children affected with Autism frequently isolate themselves from others and enjoy very repetitive activities.

Many controversies surround the causes of Autism and are not limited to just genetics, but also outside elements such as heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, preservatives and vaccinations. A lack of convincing scientific evidence surrounds these claims.

Reports of as many as one out of approximately every 120 children is affected by this disorder and boys account for around 75% of those affected.  There is no know cure for Autism and very few children ever live independently after reaching adulthood.

Parents of these children tend to have higher levels of stress. Siblings seem to have less conflict and greater admiration for them than for their siblings that are not affected.

These things I know from research. What I know from having an affected child myself is that these children can be the happiest beings alive and bring greater joy and love to you than you can possibly imagine. If you have such a child, I would be honored to capture a beautiful moment of their life.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Mention when you call in and we will donate 50% of your session to the Illinois Center for Autism!

Respectfully yours,
